South Point Petitions Nevada Gaming Control Board to Allow Wagering on Non-Athletic Events
As we begin a new year, there could be some big changes in how gamblers may place a bet. Up until now, only sanctioned athletic events could be wagered on in Las Vegas. South Point has petitioned the Nevada Gaming Board to lift those regulations and, if approved, you will be able to put your money on non-sanctioned events such as the Olympics, the Heisman Trophy winner and even the Oscars. There will be a public hearing on the proposal Feb. 26.
The Mirage Renovating Poker Room
Card sharks have until Jan. 24 to be in the deal at The Mirage’s poker room when it will close for renovations. The expected reopening date is May 15. The new room will be smaller reducing the number of tables from 19 to 12. The elevated portion of the existing poker room—reserved for high-limit games—will be removed. During the four-month construction period, dealers will be laid off and rehired based on their seniority.
